In Mathura city, Uttar Pradesh, on August 31, 2021, the sale of meat, eggs, non-vegetarian products, and alcohol was prohibited in specific areas. Members of the Muslim community who were engaged in this business claim that the tradition of selling meat has existed in Mathura since British rule. However, due to recent restrictions imposed in the last two years, this business has come to a complete standstill, resulting in widespread unemployment among those who depended on it. Within the restricted zone, all non-vegetarian hotels, shops selling meat in bulk, and slaughterhouses have been forced to shut down. It's noteworthy that this area has a substantial Muslim population, and the meat-selling business was predominantly operated by members of the Muslim community. These restrictions apply only to 22 wards in Mathura, while in other areas, non-vegetarian hotels and meat sales continue as usual.
