My exams have started, but there has been a major electricity issue for the past few days. There has been no power for two days, making it very difficult for me to study. I thought of going to the market to buy a shell-powered light that could help me study for at least 3-4 hours. When I reached the market, I went to a shopkeeper and asked if he had a light that worked on shells. He replied, "Sorry, I don’t have it." Feeling disappointed, I started heading home when I noticed a junkyard. I thought of asking there if they had any kind of light available. I went inside and greeted Mans Bhai. I asked him if he had any light or anything similar that could help me. He said he didn’t, so I asked again, "Do you have anything that could be used for lighting?" He then told me, "We do have an antique oil lamp, but it won’t be useful for you." What he didn’t know was how much I love antique items and that I also restore them on YouTube. I asked him to show me the lamp. He called one of his workers and asked him to bring the lamp from inside. As soon as he brought it out, I was filled with excitement. However, the lamp was rusty and in terrible condition. Mans Bhai told me, "This is the only thing we have that can provide light, but you’ll have to fix it first." I agreed and bought it from him. I took the lamp to my office and decided to restore it and use it for my needs. However, the restoration process was quite challenging. As I started working on it, I was shocked to find a dead baby lizard inside the lamp. I continued working, and when I began restoring the upper part, a piece of metal suddenly snapped and injured my hand. Despite the difficulties, I didn’t give up. I carefully removed the old paint using a paint remover and applied a fresh coat. The lamp looked completely transformed—100 times better than before! Once the restoration was complete, I decided to test it. I was nervous, wondering if it would even work. To my delight, it worked perfectly! Now, this antique oil lamp is in my daily use.
