Vitiligo is a skin condition that results in a loss of pigment from areas of skin, resulting in irregular white patches that feel like normal skin. Vitilogo affects about 1% of the world population, but the cause of vitiligo is unknown and it can be difficult to treat. But scientists at the University of Maryland School of Medicine are pursuing research to better understand the cells that make pigment (melanocytes) - research that may lead to better treatment options for vitiligo in the future.
