Performance: Oct. 15th, 2016 evening When Frederick was a boy, his nursemaid Ruth misunderstood his father's instructions to her to apprentice his son to a pilot. She instead apprenticed him to a pirate. And rather than break the bad news to his father, she decided to join Frederick and the pirates as a piratical maid of all work. Frederick has now turned twenty-one and is finally free of his indenture to the pirates. Though Frederick has grown fond of them, now free, he vows to take up an honest life and exterminate all of them for the pestilential scourge that they are. He tries to convince the pirates to abandon their piratical profession and join him. But the Pirate King declines telling him that contrasted with respectability, the piratical way of life is comparatively honest. Free of the pirates, Ruth makes a case to Frederick that she would make him a fine wife. Frederick, has not laid eyes on another woman since he joined the pirates, and is skeptical. But he is persuaded and reluctantly agrees. As they are about to depart, Frederick hears the voices of Major General Stanley's daughters as they approach the seashore. Looking at them through his spyglass he is taken by the beauty of even the plainest of them and quickly realizes that Ruth was lying to him in telling him she was beautiful. He shuns her and hides from the ladies as they approach the shore. The ladies are about shed their shoes and go sea bathing. Not wanting to embarrass them., Frederick lets them know that he is there and that their proceedings will not be un-witnessed. They are horrified to learn that he is a pirate. He explains to them that as of today he is leaving that life behind and intending to live a respectable and blameless life going forward. He appeals to them asking if one of them is willing to join him and help him is this pursuit. They all decline, except Mabel who is taken by his sad tale and manly beauty. With the pirates still nearby, the ladies prepare to leave the beach. But before they can the pirates appear and take them as prisoners and their prospective brides to be. Mabel warns that they had better not do that since they are all Wards in Chancery and their father is a Major General. By now, Major General Stanley has caught up with his daughters at the beach. Learning that the pirates are intending to run off with and marry his daughters, he comes up with a plan. Aware of the rumor that the pirates are all orphans and never harm others who are orphans, he declares to the pirates that he too is an orphan. He pleads with them not to take away his daughters. Sympathetic to his plight, the pirates agree not to take his daughters and make Major General Stanley an honorary member of their band. Frederick, now with Mabel, has engaged the assistance of the local police to root out and destroy his former shipmates. The bobbies appear and are at first all full of bravado. The women express well meaning but naive encouragement to them, applauding their bravery and pointing out how noble their deaths will be. The police, having not fully considered the riskiness of their mission, shudder at the thought. Though scared, they reluctantly depart to meet their foe. Frederick stumbles upon Ruth who has now rejoined and is with the Pirate King. They reveal to Frederick a startling paradox that they had discovered after he left; that though he has lived 21 years, Frederick was born on Feb 29th and the terms of his indenture require him to serve the pirates until his 21st birthday. Out of a sense of duty, Frederick has no choice but to rejoin the pirates and abandon his plans to wed Mabel. And he is now forced to reveal to the Pirate King that Major General Stanley is not an orphan and has deceived them. The Pirate King is furious and vows a swift and terrible revenge on Major General Stanley for his treachery. They steal into his castle preparing to kill him and take his daughters. As they seize the General and prepare to kill him, the bobbies, who have been in hiding waiting to take the pirates by surprise, jump out and do battle with the pirates. The pirates prevail. and it looks like the bobbies, the women and General Stanley are all doomed. But the Sergeant of Police demands that they yield to them in Queen Victoria's name. Though rough men, the pirates declare their love for the Queen and yield. As they are lead away to the Bar, Ruth reveals that the pirates are not bad guys; that they are all noblemen who have gone wrong. Learning this, General Stanley pardons them and gives them permission to marry all his daughters.
