Pt. 4: Deboche to Dingboche | Hiking the EVEREST BASE CAMP TREK | EBC 2022 // THIS is the story of how I said “Yes” to my very first international trek, hiking up to Everest Base Camp in Nepal. From Deboche, we would start to get above treeline and into the high alpine area, treating us to lots and lots of magical mountain views. Our trek started off today with warm, clear, sunny weather. By late afternoon, the cloud, fog and breeze started to roll in. This seems to be the pretty typical daily weather pattern for this area. There were more “Tea & Pee” breaks, Ginger Lemon Honey Teas drank and plenty of Dal Bhat consumed. Did you know that when you order Dal Bhat along the trek here in Nepal, you get seconds? Along the way to Dingboche, we did a fair amount of uphill hiking. Nepal is NOT FLAT! We also got to take our time and enjoy all of the scenery around us – the big, beautiful mountains, more stupas and local wildlife including free roaming yaks and mountain dogs. Once we reached our teahouse in Dingboche, we took a quick tea break before doing one of our high elevation acclimation exercises: Hike High (up to the nearby stupa) and Sleep Low (in the teahouse later that night.) Even with the higher elevation, I was feeling pretty strong and energetic today.
