UNVEILING & LAUNCH OF THE SOUTH AFRICA CHAPTER OF YOUTH IMPACT PARLIAMENT (YIP) Date: Sunday, 1st February 2026 Time: 6:00 PM South African Time | 4:00 PM GMT Venue: Online (Google Meet – paa-pmhc-gjm) The session commenced at the appointed time with participants duly joining the virtual platform. The session opened with prayers led by Mr. Jones Amegashie-Viglo, Executive Director of the Youth Impact Movement (YIM), President of the Senate of the Youth Impact Parliament Ghana, and Chairperson of the Conference of YIP Speakers and Presiding Officers (CYSPO), who convened the launch. In his welcome address, Mr. Jones Amegashie-Viglo welcomed all dignitaries, guests, and participants to the unveiling and launch of the South Africa Chapter of the Youth Impact Parliament (YIP). He briefed the gathering on the governance system of the Republic of South Africa and its parliamentary structure, and presented an overview of the Youth Impact Movement and the Youth Impact Parliament, highlighting their international engagements and commitment to youth leadership, parliamentary excellence, and civic participation across Africa. The Convener then invited Madam Kate Addo, Coordinating Director of Public Affairs of the Parliament of the Republic of Ghana, to deliver her opening remarks and preside over the formal proceedings of the launch. In her address, Madam Kate Addo commended the initiative and underscored the strategic importance of South Africa within Africa’s democratic and parliamentary landscape. She spoke on the Pan-African Parliament headquartered in South Africa and the opportunities it presents for parliamentary diplomacy and inter-parliamentary engagement. She further educated participants on parliamentary ethics, procedures, and the rules governing the operations of a legislature, and encouraged the South Africa Chapter to lay a strong institutional foundation. Following her remarks, the Speaker-Designate of the Pilot Parliament, Mr. Siyabonga Nzima, was presented for the administration of the oath of office. In accordance with the practices of the Parliament of the Republic of South Africa, Mr. Siyabonga Nzima read the oath as an affirmation in the presence of the oath administrator, Madam Kate Addo. Upon the completion of the affirmation, he was declared duly sworn in as Speaker of Parliament of the South Africa Chapter of the Youth Impact Parliament. Thereafter, Speaker Siyabonga Nzima delivered his acceptance speech, expressing gratitude for the confidence reposed in him. He committed himself to the cause of youth development and parliamentary excellence, assured the House of his dedication to the growth and sustainability of the South Africa Chapter, and formally acknowledged his responsibility as Head of the Chapter in accordance with the Constitution of the Youth Impact Movement. Subsequently, Mr. Adam Usman, Acting Administrative Director of the Youth Impact Movement, Speaker of Parliament of the Youth Impact Parliament Ghana, and Vice Chairperson (Affairs) of the Chairperson of the Conference of YIP Speakers and Presiding Officers (CYSPO), delivered congratulatory remarks. He advised the Speaker on the constitutional responsibilities, neutrality, and leadership obligations of the office and assured him of guidance and institutional support. This was followed by Mr. Mark Bless Dormevenu, Minority Chief Whip of the Youth Impact Parliament Ghana, who congratulated the Speaker and encouraged him to adopt innovative and strategic approaches towards membership mobilisation and institutional development of the South Africa Chapter. The Convener, Mr. Jones Amegashie-Viglo, also congratulated the Speaker and provided guidance on the funding arrangements, governance structures, and management systems of YIP Chapters. He further highlighted opportunities available to the South Africa Chapter, including engagements and official visits to Provincial Legislatures under the auspices of the Youth Impact Parliament. At the conclusion of the launch proceedings, the South Africa Chapter of the Youth Impact Parliament was formally declared inaugurated by Madam Kate Addo, thereby establishing the Chapter as a recognised organ of the Youth Impact Movement. Following the formal declaration, Speaker Siyabonga Nzima assumed the Chair as the substantive Presiding Officer of the House, thanked all dignitaries and participants for their presence and support, and declared the session duly adjourned.
