#communityquestions I've spoken to more than one plant parent who uses this watering strategy. They notice their plant is dry, so they add a little bit of water. Sometimes its been anything from a few table spoons to a few cups of water. This cycle of tiny waterings and drying out happens so frequently some end up watering their Monstera every day or every other day. I think this boils down to having all the right knowledge but applying it in the wrong way. Most aroids when kept in a normal home environment need to go through a wet and dry cycle. Usually this cycle takes 1-2 weeks. Plants need to be watered fully where their entire root system has access to water so they can absorb nutrients in the soil. This doesn't necessarily mean soaking your plant with water. It can mean watering until a bit of water comes out of the bottom of the drainage holes. We have to develop a better understanding of how our soil type retains water, how fast our plant dries out, and when it needs watering again.
