Performed by the BAVE Chamber Choir (The Catholic Singing Ambassadors) and The Catholic Chamber Orchestra of Kuala Lumpur, directed by Dr Casey Broadway. This performance is part of the Lenten Concert “The Power of The Cross 2026”, a collaboration between Broadway Academy and the Archdiocesan Office of Human Development (AOHD). Josef Rheinberger (1839–1901) was a Romantic composer best known for his sacred choral and organ music. His Stabat Mater, Op. 138, sets the medieval Latin hymn Stabat Mater, which reflects on the sorrow of the Virgin Mary at the foot of the cross. Rheinberger’s setting is admired for its lyrical melodies, rich Romantic harmonies, and deeply devotional character. Written for choir and organ, the work moves between moments of quiet reflection and more expressive passages, allowing the text’s emotion to unfold with warmth and reverence. The piece remains one of Rheinberger’s most cherished sacred choral works.
