Tonight I head into Manchester city centre after dark with my Canon R6 Mark II and just one lens, a 50mm prime. No tripod, no flash… just the city lights, heavy rain, and whatever moments unfold on the streets. Rain might not be ideal for most photographers, but for night street photography it can transform a city. Wet pavement and puddles reflect neon lights, car headlights and shop windows, creating incredible atmosphere and colour. I wander through Manchester capturing: Reflections in rain-soaked streets Trams moving through the city People passing through pools of light Restaurant windows and everyday moments The neon glow of Chinatown Along the way I share a few night photography tips, including why high ISO isn’t always a bad thing. Grain and noise can actually add mood and character to street photography, especially in low-light city scenes. I also experiment with a few longer exposures handheld, trying to capture the feeling of Manchester at night in the rain. To finish the evening, I stop by a classic Manchester pub — The Shakespeare — for half a pint of Abbot Ale before heading home. If you enjoy street photography, night photography, and exploring cities with a camera, this one’s for you.
