Nearly half of the imports coming into Uganda should not be in supermarkets or any other shop or better still at the bottom of a garbage pit. This is because 40 per cent of the imports are sub-standard and not healthy for consumption according to Uganda National bureau of Standards. Among these are cosmetics, building materials such as cement and iron bars, electronic cables yet these dominate the list of goods imported to Uganda. In the following report we seek to understand what the policy makers make of worrying situation and whether agencies like UNBS have any solutions to safeguard Ugandans.
