Declension patterns are based on 2 principles that are perfectly reflected in the standard, default pattern (#1): A) There is a general preference for the STRONG declension over the weak. B) Determiners & adjectives ‘don’t mix’, but take DIFFERENT declensions. Each of the exception patterns breaks (or omits) one of these rules: • pattern #2 utilizes the ‘no declension’ option first (vs. the strong) • pattern #3 HAS no determiners (just adjectives) • pattern #4 mixes determiners & adjectives (using the SAME declensions) No other German course will teach you about declension patterns! If you try to learn German the conventional way, you will discover just how complicatedly it is usually presented. But German grammar actually makes a lot of sense!
