n this video, we explain the difference between a Motorized Damper (MD) and a Motorized Smoke Fire Damper (MSFD) in HVAC systems. A normal motorized damper is used for airflow control during normal operation and is typically rated up to 70°C. However, in fire and smoke control systems, ventilation must continue operating during a fire. In such cases, a Motorized Smoke Fire Damper (MSFD) is required, as it can withstand temperatures up to 250°C. We also cover: Normal mode vs fire mode operation Why smoke control fans must run during fire Why fire dampers are not allowed in some areas like battery rooms Fire compartment concepts and duct fire-rating requirements Proper MSFD installation near fire-rated walls This video is helpful for HVAC engineers, MEP professionals, and students learning fire and smoke control systems.
