On October 17th, 2022, Stockton Firefighters responded to a 2nd alarm structure fire at a 2 story vacant building on the waterfront. Engine 2 was initially toned out to reports of an outdoor fire in the area of Fremont and Stockton Street. While en route, dispatch upgraded the incident to a working structure fire. Engine 2 arrived on scene to the abandoned Colberg Shipyard building. Engine 2 and Engine 9 made entry into the grounds and stretched a 2 1/2 attack line; and opted to also place a ground monitor. Battalion 1 struck a 2nd alarm and Truck 2 set up for a water tower. Crews on scene had to overcome water supply issues and access around the fire building. Crews were able to save multiple exposures and bring the fire under control after several hours. The placement of a ground monitor as an attack is a relatively slow process that yields high rewards. The fire was being pushed by a wind from the north and was significantly involved upon arrival. The entire side of the Bravo side of the structure engulfed in flame as the monitor was placed, and the radiant heat was blistering even at 100 feet away. The GPM from the ground monitor made an immediate impact that allowed crews to save the exposure and begin to cool the fire down. Two elevated master streams were put into operation to finish the job. We thank you for your views, support, feedback, and comments.
