The Russian submarine U-434 is the largest hunting and espionage submarine in the world, and on the edge of the Port of Hamburg it offers a thrilling peek behind the front of the Cold War. At the same time, it reveals the spartan living conditions that the crew faced underwater. The Tango-class submarine was built in 1976 at the Russian shipyard Krasnoe Sormovo, in Gorki. It was launched after only 8 months. Up until April 2002, it served the Russian North Sea fleet under the name B-515.
