The Premiere performance of Modern Art Orchestra plays Béla Bartók 15 Hungarian Peasant Songs was live streamed from Budapest Music Center on the 25th of March 2018. Modern Art Orchestra is founded, directed and conducted by the world-known trumpetist, composer and arranger Kornél Fekete-Kovács. The band gained the status of an internationally renowned chamber orchestra during its 15-year-long artistic journey and produced a 25 hour-long contemporary composition-repertoire. Finding home and support at Budapest Music Center, György Kurtág’s current home, the band can fulfill its chosen duty of sharing Hungarian classical music from composers like Bartók and Kodály transcripted with respect to the tradition. The formation has a unique voice as a contemporary music workshop also: every member can play classical, jazz, or ethnic music effortlessly resulting in a crossover among genres. The ensemble has published many, internationally acknowledged albums so far, like Kornél Fekete-Kovács’s Foundations. The concert program based on Modern Art Orchestra’s 2018 album, 15 Hungarian Peasant Songs, is an excellent example of how Béla Bartók’s cultural heritage is carried on. The original solo piano pieces were transcripted for the grand orchestra by the band’s own composers. They saved the original form and phrases of the songs and connected them with conducted solo performances of Modern Art Orchestra musicians and the stunning invited solo artists like David Liebman. This show is currently invited to international tours. The ensemble has worked together with a world-wide network of the finest musicians, like Kurt Elling or Wallace Roney through Rhoda Scott, Julian Joseph and Mike Garson -- just to name a few. The band’s recent online concert, ‘Tribute to Joe Henderson’ featured Bob Mintzer, Tony Lakatos, Rick Margitza and Gábor Bolla. The newest concept of Modern Art Orchestra is Art Of Virus worldwide composing challenge with 486 composers from 42 countries. The series aims to bring the authors and the public closer together and give a peek into the genesis of the compositions.    • HIGHLIGHTS BP 20/21 - Modern Art Orchestra...   MAO – Legendary Albums Modern Art Orchestra’s Legendary Albums series presents the most important and unique albums of jazz literature, performed by MAO. By learning and playing these compositions and arrangements, the musicians are paying tribute to the jazz legends and are undergoing an intense process of musical improvement. The band absorbs the material of the original recordings, sticking to the arrangements, forms and compositional features. Modern Art Orchestra’s Art of Virus project gives answers to the urgent questions about re-defining culture in the form of positive reflection about music, art-theory and performing art from the perspective of music.
