Kristen Lawrence's cover of "Garden of Magic" (known popularly as "Come, Little Children"), Sarah Sanderson's witchy song from the movie, "Hocus Pocus." The original song in the movie is (tragically) only one verse, so Kristen added two more verses, a bridge, and a chorus. The new lyrics and new melodies are hers, except the chorus lyrics for which she used the refrain from William Butler Yeats' poem, "The Stolen Child." In Irish folklore, faeries were known to kidnap children. And what do (bad) witches do? The same thing. (The Sanderson sisters were successful. Hansel and Gretel's witch was not.) This common folklore thread weaving together witches and faeries intrigued Kristen while shaping her arrangement. Garden of Magic (Come, Little Children)- Witches and Faeries Version Come, little children, I’ll take thee away Into a land of enchantment. Come, little children, the time’s come to play Here in my garden of magic. Dance, little children, around the oak trees, Summoning roots by thy dashing. Dance, little children, by rivers and seas, Slowing the tides by thy splashing. Chorus: Come away, O human child! To the waters and the wild With a faery, hand in hand, For the world’s more full of weeping than you can understand. Dream, little children, of starlight and games Lengthening springtime’s green pathways. Dream, little children, of make-believe names; Wish and pretend while thou hast days. When petals wilt and rose hips droop And the earth runs faster in its loop, When silver moonlight beams match hair, Of witches and faeries, O children, beware! Chorus: Come away, O human child! To the waters and the wild With a faery, hand in hand, For the world’s more full of weeping than you can understand. verse melody — James Horner 1st verse lyrics — Brock Walsh chorus lyrics — William Butler Yeats all other melodies/music and lyrics — Kristen Lawrence © Walt Disney Music Company ℗ 2021 Kristen Lawrence (ASCAP) Links to purchase and stream - HalloweenCarols.com
