God has called us to His Kingdom and glory. And not only called us, but transferred us into that realm and given us His Spirit as a deposit, guaranteeing great blessings ahead. Today’s reading from The Kingdom Turn is found on pages 69 and 70: “Paul says that those who have been transferred, by grace through faith, into the Kingdom of God’s dear Son stand squarely in the ‘hope of glory.’ That is, whatever they hoped for before coming to faith in Christ, whatever changeable circumstances or things they aspired to attain, now their hope is infinitely more glorious, awesome, fearful, holy, and sure. They hope to know God in His glory, and to know Him thus day by day, year-in and year-out. “The effect of this, this finding ourselves in the presence of God’s glory, is transforming. We gain – in His Word, through prayer, in meditation, refracted through the creation – a clear and compelling sense of the beauty of God and Jesus Christ, and we are caught up in the thrall of it, so that we know what Moses felt, what the people of Israel felt, and what Peter and James and John knew in the presence of the transformed Christ on that glory-filled mount. We know the glory of God! And that glory falls around us, bending us down with fear and joy, penetrating the depths of our souls, filling our hearts, minds, and consciences with the light of the Lord and the joy of our salvation. And then that glory, that extraordinary presence of God within us, begins to work its way out in our everyday lives, affecting all we say and do with a presence from beyond this world that marks us out as different from the people around us who do not know the Lord. “God intends to make His glory known to the people of this world, and He has planned to do that through us, through all our daily routines, activities, conversations, and work. We are by no means ordinary people, and we may expect that others will see the presence of the Kingdom as we live from glory to glory every day of our lives.” For reflection or discussion 1. How many different ways can you think of which show that you are not an ordinary person? 2. In what ways does your extraordinariness appear in the ordinary things of your life? We who have made the Kingdom turn are in no way ordinary, except that, in all the ordinary things of our lives we may glorify God and realize the presence of His Kingdom. Share today’s podcast with a friend, then get together to discuss ways you can enhance your extraordinariness together in serving the Lord.
