You were hopeful when the narcissist said they would change for you, and also believed their gaslighting that you were the problem. You anxiously await whether the narcissist will have the same issues with the new supply or if that relationship will end as well. It looks like the narcissist using all of their narcissistic punishment tactics to protect against further feelings of shame. If the narcissist has done their usual control tactics, they have told the new supply only negative things about you. The new supply is part of the love bombing stage and until the narcissist treats them like they treated you, the new supply will believe all of the lies the narcissist tells. Many wonder if the narcissist will change for the new supply, if somehow they'll be better, more understanding, or different.
