Liquids have particles that are further apart with weaker attraction, allowing them to flow and take the shape of their container while keeping a fixed volume. Gases have particles with the most space between them and very little attraction, meaning they have no definite shape or volume and can be compressed easily. Matter can change from one state to another by changing the temperature or pressure, a process known as the interconversion of matter. This includes melting, boiling, and freezing, as well as sublimation, where a solid turns directly into a gas. Regardless of these changes, the law of conservation of mass states that matter is never created or destroyed.
