Hi all. I started losing my voice; I talked too much yesterday :) Here's a quick demonstration of three types of oil pastels I have in my studio. I used a pack of black Fredrix canvas panels I've had in my studio for a while now, so all of them would be tested on the same surface. The Loew-Cornell pastels are quite dry, so they were extremely crumbly. Those were the first I tried out. The second type were the Pentel Oil Pastels. They were much less crumbly but still had a bit. That said, they still blended quite well and the colors are bright and pop well on the black board. The third and final type I tried are my favorite, at least of what I have in my studio at the moment. They're the Cray-Pas Expressionist, and I do have to add that they're extra fine quality oil pastels, whereas I believe the other brands are student grade. That has a lot to do with how well they work and feel. They blend the best and I had no crumbling at all. I'll be showing them in future videos with more complex themes. I'd love to try other brands to judge more thoroughly, especially since I've kind of fallen in love with this medium. Never fear: I still love acrylic, watercolor, drawing media, assemblage, mixed media... you get the picture. And you'll be getting more videos with all of these in the next couple months. Let me know your thoughts, and if you'd like a more in depth real time video trying these out. If you have a favorite brand of oil pastel, or if there's a type you've been wondering about, let me know. As always, I pray everything is well in your corner of the world. Stay safe, be kind and true, and I'll see you in the next one. Grace and peace
