This is your usual programme: 'GOD IS WITH YOU' by your humble servant, Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Bartholomew Koroma, CSSp. A member of the Congregation of the Holy Ghost Fathers and Brothers, commonly known as Spiritans. Our First Reading is from the Book of the Prophet Amos 6:1a and verses 4-7. In this passage, the prophet Amos delivers a strong warning to the complacent leaders of Israel, particularly those living in luxury in Zion and Samaria. He criticizes the wealthy for indulging in extravagant lifestyles; reclining on ivory beds, feasting on choice meats, and entertaining themselves with music, while being oblivious to the moral decay and impending judgment of the nation. The Second Reading is from the First Letter of Saint Paul to Timothy 6:11-16. In this passage, Paul delivers a strong and heartfelt exhortation to Timothy, his young mentee in the faith. Following prior warnings about the hazards of greed and misleading teachings, Paul now turns to motivate Timothy on how to conduct himself as a man of God. Paul advises him to "escape" from the desire for wealth and earthly ambitions, and instead to "seek righteousness, godliness, faith, love, perseverance, and kindness." These traits reveal the genuine nature of an individual dedicated to Christ and committed to spiritual growth. The Gospel today is taken from Luke 16:19-31. This passage contains the parable of the rich man and Lazarus, a powerful teaching of Jesus that addresses themes of wealth, compassion, justice, and eternal consequences. The story begins with a vivid contrast between two men: a rich man who lives in luxury every day, dressed in fine clothes and feasting, and a poor man named Lazarus, who lies at the rich man’s gate, covered in sores and longing to eat the scraps from his table. Even though they were physically closed, the rich man showed no compassion or help to Lazarus.
