Looking Back to Move Forward Originally delivered in February 2023 as part of Cedar Crest College's Black History Month speaker series, this presentation explores the vital role of Black Queer identity within the framework of systemic liberation. The 2023 Black History Month theme was "Black Resistance: A Journey to Equality." In this session, we look beyond the surface of mainstream narratives to examine how the intersection of race, gender, and sexuality informs the way we fight for—and achieve—true equity. Why This Still Matters in 2026 While this recording is a few years old, the strategies of resistance and the nuances of intersectional identity discussed here remain at the forefront of our current social discourse. This video serves as both a historical snapshot and a roadmap for ongoing advocacy. In This Presentation: Mapping Intersectionality: Understanding how overlapping identities create unique experiences of both oppression and power. The Queer Roots of Resistance: Honoring the Black Queer pioneers who have historically led the charge for civil rights. Challenging the Monolith: Why "Black Resistance" must be inclusive of all gender expressions and sexual orientations to be effective. Disclaimer! This recording has been edited to focus on the presenter.
