Three shots people gathered to pay tribute to Lindh at shop where she was stabbed STORYLINE: Swedish police told the media on Thursday that the investigations into the fatal stabbing of Foreign Minister Anna Lindh are continuing. Police were hunting for a tall, stocky man who they said stabbed Lindh in an upscale Stockholm department store on Wednesday as she shopped unguarded with a friend. Borders and ferries were being monitored closely, but no arrests have been made. Investigators said they were using "every resource" to track the suspect. Police do not believe the attack was planned and unsure of whether it was politically motivated, although it came just three days before Swedes vote in a referendum on adopting the euro. On Thursday evening dignitaries, including Sweden's King Gustaf and Queen Sylvia, attended a memorial service for Lindh in Stockholm. As dusk fell, people gathered around the government headquarters to pay tribute to Lindh, laying flowers and candles in front of the building. Lindh was a leading campaigner for replacing the Swedish krona with the common currency - an issue that had inspired vehement opposition. Swedish Prime Minister Goeran Persson said on Thursday that this weekend's euro referendum will proceed despite her murder. Persson, visibly exhausted in the wake of Lindh's death, said that while campaigning would come to an immediate halt, both sides would still be able to answer questions from voters. Persson said he and other party leaders had discussed possibly postponing the Sept. 14 referendum for a month to as along as a year. But they agreed that they were both "bad alternatives". Funeral arrangements are yet to be announced, but churches were to be kept open in many parts of the country and a memorial service was scheduled Thursday night in a cathedral in the university town of Uppsala, just north of Stockholm.
