Pestilence - Land of Tears (Bass Cover)

After having a weekend that was originally gonna be busy with friends and plans with Inscribed and so on, all of that kinda cancelled on me because of course everyone has busy and hectic lives. So to pass the time and keep my playing in shape today I decided to learn one of the very first death metal songs I ever heard, Land of Tears by Pestilence! Every bass cover and tab I've seen of this one is a little off with the note choices on the main riffs, so I tried to create my own super accurate version! This song is super important to me and while I am always partial to the early Pestilence with Martin Van Drunen, Testimony of the Ancients has continued to steal my heart for some reason. It might be that sentimentality, but it is just full of charm, thrashy power, catchy riffs, fantastic production, and top tier musicianship. Marco was really the key to keeping Pestilence going before they broke up. His lyricism and musical drum style kept things going. But before I trail off, the part of this song that really captivated me when I first heard it was that beautiful solo in the middle, which I reminded me of so much of the classic music that came before it and made me realize that death metal music could be very special. I had heard it through the music video which appeared in a documentary. A funny twist of fate with it too was that I didn't know until much later that Tony Choy played on this album, who of course played with Atheist, a band that schooled me completely and I owe everything too! But of course, consequently, I owe a lot to Pestilence for also opening my eyes to different sides of music. His playing is fantastic on this album even if it's not his most showy! Just straight traditional thrashing metal bass! Love it! I'm really happy with how this came out, and it was a fun thing to keep myself occupied for today.
