Currently all 5 members of the Commission are Republican. The Commission sets utility rates, should protect consumers and alot more! There will be 2 open seats next year. Democrats have struggled in Corporation Commission elections in recent years and need a voice on this important body! There are strong contenders ready to bring balance and accountability to the Commission, who can make a real difference in Arizona’s utility future! Clara Pratte is a member of the Navajo Nation and is Executive Director and Chair of Navajo Power, a public benefit corporation that promotes renewable energy development on tribal land. Pratte also has extensive experience working for the federal government and tribal governments. She worked at the Small Business Administration and U.S. Department of Commerce under three U.S. Presidents. A resident of Flagstaff, she runs a professional services firm. Jonathon Hill is a researcher at Arizona State University, where he works in the Mars Space Flight Facility. He has a doctorate in geological sciences and a master’s in aerospace engineering. He believes scientific and engineering expertise is critical when dealing with complex issues like energy generation, water distribution, infrastructure and public utility regulation. Derrick Espadas is a business owner and educator based in Tucson. He is involved in local community organizations including serving on the boards of nonprofits such as Differently Abled Entertainment. He founded and is Executive Director for the Chloe Prep. Academy, which prepares students for competitive academics & job markets. He is the owner and managing partner of Spade Business Services.
