Situated on the southern shore of the Albany River, Fort Albany First Nation is only accessible by air or, by winter road. Peetabeck is home to many survivors of the notorious St. Anne’s Residential School, where at least 700 survivors were submitted to sexual abuse and to an electric chair, among many other atrocities. Although St. Anne’s closed in 1964, the school remained standing, until it was set ablaze, in 1999. Survivors are still seeking compensation after the government’s failure to disclose the documented abuse in a previous 2006 court case led to it ”being dismissed”. The trauma is intergenerational and is rooted in the long, dark history of many terrible travesties committed against First Nations Peoples in Canada, which include, but, are not limited to: kidnapping, rape and physical abuse, endured by many of those who attended residential schools. ------------------------------------------------- I claim no ownership of any of the clips, video and music expressed in this video...and employ my borrowing of them with much respect and thanks.
