Initially found as babies, the two animals were rehabilitated back to health by Mark Longo and his wife. Although they were unable to be reintroduced into the wild, Peanut and Fred lived a happy life as indoor pets, growing a massive following online as Longo documented their journey as a family. Although their story sparked hope and joy among hundreds of thousands of people, Peanut and Fred's last chapters ended with tragedy as the DEC seized them and put them down to be tested for rabies. Unfortunately, these events catapulted a plethora of unfortunate events that have led to accusations, lies, and rumors being spread.
