Five Negro Spirituals - Arr. Lawrence Brown I Know de Lord's laid His hands on Me Swing Low, Sweet Chariot Nobody Know's the Trouble I've Seen Sometimes I feel like a Motherless child Ev'ry Time I feel de spirit I have always been fascinated by the word “Colloquial,” the title of this recital. Colloquial refers to language native to a certain area, such as accents and slangs used in a certain part of town. This is fascinating because colloquialisms are one of the few things that will never change as people get older. I am playing vastly different pieces of music, from the early-1700’s up to a piece that is 10 years old, yet I play each piece with the same personal colloquialism that I cannot change or get rid of (nor will I ever want to).
