Round 7 of the 2025 NSW Hillclimb Championship saw us return to the awesome Ringwood Park circuit. Conditions were absolutely awful, with the track pretty much wet for the entire day. Considering how wet the conditions were, run 1 was not too bad of an observation lap, clocking a neat 96.08 as a start point. Very slippery, with the back of the car always on the move. With a feel for the conditions, I pushed a little harder in run 2, clocking an improved time of 94.36. Not terrible. Multiple Australian champion Dean Tighe was out after me, and even he was caught out by the slippery conditions sending his Judd powered Dallara off into the muddy ditch. The clean up crew did a great job getting such a low car out of the ditch, and as a bonus the sun came out for a brief moment. Travis McGeorge from Team McFiat Racing was waiting in line for his second run, and the racing gods delivered the gift of a drying track. Travis seized the opportunity, and put down a great time of 94.13 for his second run, snatching the class lead. Run 3 was up, the rain was back, and I was running out of chances to put down an improved time. A missed gear change and wide excursion in the first moments of the run should have sent me a warning, but I continued to push to try to make up some time. First time across the top of the track the car behaved predictably, but the second pass across the top the back of the car let go sending me into the tyre wall in the slide of trying to catch it. I cant complain too much, I have done a lot of laps in this car and have never put a mark on it. Still, I would have preferred to have not done it. 103.05 just to rub it in a little. One last chance to take back the win in run 4. I dusted off my pride and went out for one last red hot crack at it. Once again the rain returned, I slid the car around the track as fast as I could, but could not get the time down in the deteriorating conditions. A final time of 95.01. Travis gets the extremely well deserved win, amazing work mate! That's pretty much it for 2025 in the 127, she needs a well deserved rest and a clean up to repair the damage. Bring on 2026, and watch out Team McFiat Racing!
