𝐀𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐬 𝐅𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐂𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐂𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐦𝐛𝐢𝐚 Explore the enduring legacy of American protests, from colonial tax revolts to contemporary demonstrations. Terms like "petitioning of grievances," "The Tea Party," "tarred and feathered," and "burning in effigy" have historical roots that continue to resonate today. The United States was created, in part, by a public tax revolt and the questions surrounding events like the January 6th riot are still being debated. Join us for a compelling examination of the protests that have shaped our nation, where the right to peaceful protest is enshrined in the founding documents. Our speaker, Keith Preston, discovered a passion for the Constitution and the Bill of Rights during his Master's studies at Webster University. His understanding of the right to protest, initially formed during his time at the University of Wisconsin amidst Vietnam War protests, deepened through his career transition from finance to teaching history. Keith will provide insights into the constitutional boundaries of "protected speech" and "peaceable assembly," particularly in light of recent protests and the ongoing debate over these fundamental rights.
