Cancer deaths accounts for more than 30% of all deaths in Hong Kong. According to the Hong Kong Cancer Registry, the increase in the number of new cancer cases and cancer deaths was primarily attributed to an ageing and growing population. As long as the current demographic trends continue, corresponding increase in the burden of cancer in the population is expected. In view of these alarming situations over the years, Hong Kong Baptist Hospital has been focusing on investing state-of-the-art technologies – nuclear medicine and PET in particular, and has now become one of the major service providers for diagnosing and treating cancer patients in the territory. In the film we tour the Nuclear Medicine & PET Centre, PET-MR Centre & Cyclotron & Molecular Imaging Tracers Centre and find out the Hospital’s recent and future development in terms of investigative and therapeutic services, followed by two nuclear medicine specialists in introducing an array of best-in-class installations including PET-MR, cyclotron, PET-CT and gamma camera.
