Saree Sale in Goa @ Kavle Shantadurga | श्री शांतादुर्गा संस्थान कवळे साडी विक्री #sareesale #templesofgoa #travelkardotcom #travelkar Its not a surprise women love sarees. Goan Hindu women go a step further and want sarees worn to the goddess as prasad. Its usually at a high price than MRP. The items shown in the video at Shri Shantadurga Kavle silk saree sale are indeed high quality. The lady seen in the video was buying for herself and her daughter for a wedding. Rather its a common tradition that the bride and ladies of her family wears such a saree during the actual wedding rituals. Many are actually wedding quality. Many Goan families have a tradition of offering a high quality sari to their Kuldevi (goddess of their clan) after a wedding as a token of respect and thanks for completing the ceremony without any obstructions. There is also a practice of giving the first wedding invitation to their goddess and taking her permission before rest of the invitations are distributed. 9 yard silk saris (can be cut in 5 yards too) are sold at Shri Shantadurga Kavle temple complex in a separate booth for devotees on the right of the temple to inspect and buy them. You might think its funny that the crumpled saree has a higher price tag than a perfect ironed new one . Why ? because it has been worn on the main idol of the goddess. This temple accepts credit card so cash is not a constraint buy as many as you want :D BUT a person like my wife to enter the place is a nightmare. My legs were in pain following Lata; but she was not stopping scanning the place. There were some really good ones. Other temples like Mhalsa Narayani and Shri Shantadurga Fatarpekarin also have similar booths where you can buy the sarees over the counter. During my last goa trip a 9 yard pure silk sarees with embroidery were listed at Shri Shantadurga Fatarpekarin for Rs.7000 and a week later of being unsold was cleared for Rs. 4000. If you are a Punekar the Mahalaxmi Temple opp Saras Baug also has a devi saree sale during Navratra at their office on the left side of the temple steps. The prices everything was pre-marked and we picked some real good ones. Like other temples a shop owner of sarees or jewellery visit to temples and give a fair value estimate of each item so temple administration and the devotee get proper estimate. Then the devotee has to decide if they want to pay a higher price for it. My strategy : I stand behind watching what everyone is doing. Let the ladies decide which are the best ones. Once they have 4-5 sarees short listed and need to chose one, they usually keep the best one down since its slightly expensive then the rest. Thats when I step-in & grab and hand it over to Lata. "How about this one ?" Nice ? and usually my ordeal of going out to shopping ends there immediately. I love the frustration on the other lady's face who did all the efforts for an hour but still kept it down and shows anger on a face losing the prized one . All remaining in her hand immediately turn worthless :D Now about silk saree sale at our village temple. Shri ShantaDurga Kunkalikarin sarees are not sold entire year. They are auctioned after the yearly Jatra in Dec-Jan. Its auctioned in front of 100's people in lots from morning to evening. My wife bought 2nos expensive 9 yard silk saris in last auction but has still not stitched them yet. Here the prices are reasonable but the good ones do sell at a high premium in the bidding process. The auction is not just sarees but clothes, jewellery, bikes, even cars. 50 years back we locals were not allowed to bid in the auction but now its open for anyone. The idea of devotees is taking some thing home in kind as a prasad of the goddess. ==========*==========* About Me : Hi, I am Dharmanath Fatarpekar an IT fellow spending entire day sitting in front of a screen. I live at Nanded City, Pune and yearly visit my ancestral village Fatorpa in South Goa with my family. These videos were recorded in Apr-May 2022 for about 20 days as a snap shot. My village is changing rapidly and entire South Goa is turning in a concrete jungle so its now to preserve it for my next generation. We have a house built by my father in 2000 facing enormous challenges, so after he passed away I took the privilege to maintain it sitting 460kms away which has been another challenge. I travel to Goa once every year or occasionally 2-3 times for work or get house cleaning, civil work, electrical work, plumbing work, utility bills and taxes paid. Almost all the time of vacation is spent in the work sparing 2-3 days when my family gets seriously upset. But I love doing it so no complaints. These videos are not the usual travel videos but visual documentation of the house, the village and its lovely people. ==========*==========* Please subscribe to the channel and be a part of our family.
