Train type: Stadler FLIRT³ XL5 Train No.: 3429 014 Year built: 2019 Leased to: Abellio Rail NRW Number of: 24 (22 leased to Abellio) Type in use since: 2019 Recorded on the line: RE49 From: Wuppertal-Vohwinkel train station ... to: Mulheim (Ruhr) central station As part of a tender by the S-Bahn Rhein-Ruhr, the FLIRT³ XL was ordered from Stadler Pankow GmbH in 2016 by the transport association Verkehrsverbund Rhein-Ruhr (VRR), which is the owner of the trains. A total of 17 three-part trains (XL3 = short version, class 3427) and 24 five-part trains (XL5 = long version, class 3429) were procured. Since December 15, 2019, with the change of operator from DB Regio to Abellio Rail NRW, FLIRT XL trains have been used on the RE, RB and S-Bahn lines of the Rhine-Ruhr network (RE49, RB32, RB40, S2, S3 and S9). The original operator of the train was initially the railway company Abellio Rail NRW GmbH. With the withdrawal of Abellio Rail NRW GmbH due to financial problems, the transport services (lines RE49, RB32, RB40, S2, S3 and S9) have been taken over by DB Regio AG since February 1, 2022. Of the total of 41 trains, 29 trains are leased to Abellio Rail NRW, including the train with the number 3429 014 (leased to DB Regio AG since February 1, 2022). The use of the trains intended for Regiobahn GmbH Mettmann on line S28 was delayed indefinitely because the planned electrification of the route was not completed in time. These trains were therefore temporarily rented out by the owner VRR to various railway companies in order to compensate for vehicle bottlenecks. The Stadler FLIRT³ XL trains with a top speed of 160 km/h have 180 (XL3) / 296 (XL5) seats. In addition to 1st and 2nd class, the 67.6 meter (XL3) / 106.2 meter (XL5) long train also features a multi-purpose compartment, a standard toilet and a handicapped accessible toilet. The trains are also equipped with air conditioning, WiFi, power sockets and a modern passenger information system. The trains are serviced by Stadler Pankow GmbH. The maintenance contract covers a period of 30 years.
