Always searching for the perfect fiddle mic. Is one of these two it? The fiddle/violin sound can be hard to capture properly in the studio. There are so many frequencies going on, and many times the recorded sound can be harsh, trebly and/or not true to the original sound. There is a lot you can do with EQ, but nothing beats a proper mic that gives justice to the instrument. A smooth top end is usually preferred when recording fiddles. Here is a comparison between my previous favorite fiddle/violin mics, the WA-84 from Warm Audio and my new discovery, the NU-100K from Nordic Audio Labs. I´m not voting for a winner here. They both sound good in my opinion, but with quite different characters. What do you think? I will try other microphones in my next video. If you have any mics you want to hear me test, let me know! I'm playing both fiddle/violin and my Hardanger Fiddle in this video. No EQ is used. Signal chain: Mics - Presonus Firepod - DAW Tunes played: Deliverance, by Olav L.
