Trinica’s story 📽️ Born paralyzed from the waist down, Trinica began using a wheelchair at the age of 5. In 2021, she contracted sepsis, which forced doctors to perform a quadruple amputation to save her life. “I’ve never known what it feels like to have use of my legs, but I do know how it feels to have use of my arms, so to have them taken away was quite a challenge,” Trinica reflects. Once her residual limbs healed, Trinica initially tried body-powered prosthetics, but ultimately decided a more advanced option would better suit her. After acquiring her new myoelectric prostheses, she came to Sheltering Arms Institute for our intensive prosthetic training program with the primary goal of increasing her independence with her new prostheses. Trinica is known for her positivity and radiant optimism, which she credits to her supportive family. “I have a lot of support,” she says. “There are so many people rooting for me and cheering me on… you have to let your good days outweigh the bad.” Today, Trinica continues to work diligently in outpatient therapy as she embarks on this new chapter!
