Back in 1981, when Return of the Jedi was in production, the Darth Vader sabers from The Empire Strikes Back had gone missing. We had to build a new one from scratch, using parts from the original Graflex I designed for George Lucas in 1976. It was a last-minute effort, and if I’d been the Set Decorator on Episode VI, as I was on A New Hope, I would have designed a new saber for Vader — something that evolved just as Luke’s did. Sadly, that chance never came. All these years later, I’ve gone back to that moment to design what could have been. With the help of Theory Sabers, I present The FATHER, a lightsaber rooted in the original Graflex, inspired by Ralph McQuarrie, and imagined as if it were built for Return of the Jedi in 1983. This isn’t a replica. It’s a piece of Star Wars history reimagined, a design 40 years in the making. 🔗 Learn more and support on Patreon. 🎥 Subscribe for more behind-the-scenes stories and exclusive reveals.
