Many singers have been told that singing with a breathy sound will harm their voice. That's partly true! You actually CAN sing with air on your voice and it is totally healthy, as long as you sing in very low volume! The key is control: As long as you can "switch off the air" you'll be fine. But often the breathy sound comes from bad vocal technique so that the vocal cords don't close properly.
