Custom thumbnail inspired by xxxräilfan360. / @therailfan360 Recorded September 17, 2022. After filming at Wolfskill Street, I had to then head to this area, and then ate something. After doing that, I decided to head to this crossing if trains are coming. Unfortunately, I missed a Metrolink train passing the 1st Main Street railroad crossing, but I still decided to wait at this crossing due to its older equipment. After a while I saw a solo locomotive that appears to be a UP SD70M (correct me I'm wrong) approaching the crossing. I thought it would pass this crossing, but it didn't since it only arrived to do switching jobs, after I filmed this video, it left. Also, the buttom Safetran Fading LEDs on one of the cantilevers at the other crossing across the bridge had them replaced with Dialights. At least I got to film the crossing activated, better than nothing. Note: I actually couldn't see what locomotive was, but it was definitely UP. Crossing info: Crossing is owned and maintained by Metrolink (SCAX). This crossing is a horn zone. Crossing is on the Metrolink: River Subdivision. RACO cantilever on the right: 2 pairs of 12x24" WCH lights with WCH 1st Generation LEDs, and a Safetran mechanical bell. Lincoln Industries cantilever signal on the left: 4 pairs of WCH lights with WCH 1st Generation LEDs, and a WCH type 4 electronic bell. Cantilever's gated mast: Safetran gate mechanism, Aurora Alstom LED gatelights, and a Safetran base. Lincoln Industries cantilever signal on the left: 4 pairs of WCH lights with WCH 1st Generation LEDs, and a WCH type 4 electronic bell. Cantilever's gated mast: WCH gate mechanism, Aurora Alstom LED gatelights, and a Safetran base. This crossing is quite a really nice one, and I'm glad I got to film it again since 2019. This crossing originally had a group of three RACO cantilevers (one still remaining today), that were installed by the SP in the early 1960s replacing which might have been Griswold EM signals. Those signals originally had 8" RACO incandescent lights, the EM signals were then just cut to being gated masts, and had RACO mechanical bells. This crossing stayed untouched until the early 1990s when Metrolink took over. They replaced the original EM gated masts with the current WCH gates, and the original RACO 8" lights were replaced with 12x20 Safetran incandescent lights. Then sometime in the mid-late 90s, then the original RACO mechanical bells were replaced with Safetran mechanical bells. Changes wouldn't occur again until sometime between 2004 and 2005, when the huge RACO cantilevers on Main Street were replaced with the current Lincoln Industries cantilevers, plus one if the WCH gated masts being replaced with the current one with a Safetran gate mechanism. The reguler sized RACO cantilever on Albion Street was kept, but got it's 12x20" Safetran incandescent lights replaced with the current 12x24" WCH lights with 1st-Gen LEDs. By 2009, the original gatelights were replaced with the current Alstom LED gatelights. Sometime between 2009 and 2014, the gate barriers were then restriped. Following around mid-2016, the Safetran mechanical bells were replaced on both Lincoln Industries cantilevers with the one on the RACO cantilever still remaining today. Finally between 2021 and June 2022, the gate barrier for the RACO signal had its gate restriped. It's really nice that Metrolink at least kept one of the old RACO cantilevers here, despite being modernized, but this makes it one of oldest signals that Metrolink owns. As you can see, that was pretty much the only change since my last visit in 2019. The Safetran mechanical bell actually was worked on to ring much faster, although it sounds pretty rough and tired.
