We are now learning, according to Fox News Digital, the man accused of attacking Rep. Ilhan Omar this week, has a criminal record. This comes after a town hall event hosted by Omar, a Democrat from Minnesota, on Tuesday, where a 55-year-old man allegedly attacked the congresswoman with an unknown chemical spray that had a foul odor. The man was charged with third-degree assault and was booked at the Hennepin County Jail. Rep. Omar, along with Rep. Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts, spoke alongside community leaders in Minneapolis the day after the town hall event where the incident happened. "The assault on Congresswoman Omar is disturbing and unacceptable, and the attacker must be prosecuted and punished to the full extent of the law," Rep. Tom Barrett said in a statement. "This attack is the latest of thousands of acts and threats of violence directed against Congress over the past year, resulting in a 57% increase just since 2024." Rep. Nancy Mace, R-S.C., noted she "deeply disagreed" with Omar but said she was "deeply disturbed" by the attack. "No elected official should face physical attacks. This is not who we are," Mace said.
