Raw GoPro footage approaching and skiing The Wall in the Chugach Mountains of Alaska. Filmed while skiing with Valdez Heli-Ski Guides (VHSG). Our group opened the line for the season, and I had the fourth tracks down the face. The Wall averages ~47° for roughly 1,800 vertical feet of sustained fall-line skiing, making it one of the classic lines in the range. After several days of skiing similar aspects, guide Robb Maris saw weather, snowpack, and group dynamics line up for the opportunity. At the top we waited while he assessed the slope, digging 10 pits from top to bottom before giving the green light. A second group, guided by Taylor Brown, supported the opening with two aircrafts operating in the zone for added safety coverage while the line was evaluated and skied. One by one we dropped in. This is the raw, uncut footage of the approach and descent — not a highlight reel — to show what terrain like this actually looks and feels like from the skier’s perspective. Big mountain skiing isn’t just about the line. It’s about patience, preparation, and staying composed when the terrain steepens and the consequences grow. — Big mountain skiing in Alaska requires professional guides, avalanche training, and proper preparation.
