Following the launch of Electrolube's specialist 2K range of two part conformal coatings, one of the first few questions customers usually have is "How do I apply it? Do I require bespoke application equipment? What is the actual process of application?" Throughout development of the 2K range, Electrolube has worked closely with selective coating machine manufacturers to ensure that it is optimised for application using commercially available dispensers such as PVA's VPX-2KS. PVA Applicator To further improve on this application process, we recently sent a specialist team out to the PVA Headquarters, USA to work side by side with the team at PVA to further improve and refine the process. This was also a great opportunity to test a new process for a specific customer who needed to apply the coating at 70µm - (much lower than the recommended 2K coating thickness of 200µm). This specific thickness was determined by the 100µm clearance between the board and its housing. Working with the team at PVA, we tried a variety of options. Due to low flow rate and metal valve construction, a simple valve block heater supplied sufficient heat to enable thin film application at customer target specification. This also facilitated excellent control of the material with improved edge definition and easier regulation of dispensing starts and stops. Overall the trip was a huge success and it is always a pleasure to work closely with our friends over at PVA. http://www.electrolube.com/products/c...
