On Kerala’s 69th Formation Day, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan formally declared the state free from extreme poverty — a first-of-its-kind achievement in India. The milestone comes under the Extreme Poverty Eradication Programme (EPEP) launched in 2021, aimed at ensuring no one lives on less than ₹180 a day. The initiative, driven by community participation and micro-level projects, reflects Kerala’s sustained focus on social welfare.
