The Romanesque monastery ruin Monestir Sant Pere de Rodes - with the two climbs / downhills that are challenging for cyclists - is located in the Parc natural Cap de Creus, where the Pyrenees end in the Mediterranean and is also a very popular destination for holidaymakers in the Costa Brava region. It is not far from Rosas or Figueras and very close is also Cadaques - with the museum and home of the artist Salvatore Dali. The driveway from Vilajuiga leads over a rather steep 8 km long serpentine road GIP6041 with a good view, which you can especially enjoy at the Mirador parking lot on "Carrer Font Mallola", with a fantastic view (as seen in the video) over the entire bay of Rosas . The fantastic 7.5 km long downhill, starting from a height of 550 m to El Port de la Selva, leads over a completely new asphalted serpentine road. The first part is not that steep and passes directly below the monastery. This is followed by the fast and demanding descent with tight serpentine curves that you can drive very smoothly. In the second half you often have a great view of the bay and the harbor. When you arrive in El Port de la Selva there are many opportunities to stop in the harbor, from where you can look at the monastery mountain with the serpentines from below. One last thing: the ascent from here to the monastery is even more challenging than that of Vilajuiga.
