In this opening session of ARIJ Forum (18th edition), the discussion focuses on investigative journalism, investigations, and accountability in Palestine, and why reporting under occupation becomes uniquely dangerous and complex. The panel highlights how journalists face arrest, harassment, and how reporting is repeatedly framed as a “national security” threat, turning journalism itself into a risk. From G.a.z.a, the conversation describes how documentation has shifted from “storytelling” to building evidence, and how drones, metadata, and verification can transform a photo into proof, even as journalists are targeted and smeared. The session also explores The Gaza Project: an international collaboration that brings together reporting from journalists in Gaza who risk their lives to collect evidence, combined with open-source intelligence (OSINT) and international sourcing. It discusses the barriers to independent coverage—especially the reality of foreign journalists being unable to enter Gaza, and how that affects what the world can see and verify. Finally, the speakers stress that accountability journalism is about proof, not opinion—evidence can be ignored today, tomorrow, or even next year, but it may still become the foundation for justice in the future. Speakers mentioned in the session: Frederik Obermaier, Ashraf Mashharawi, Firas Taweel, and moderator Nidal Rafa. إعلاميون من أجل صحافة استقصائية عربية (أريج) هي أول شبكة في العالم العربي رائدة في ترسيخ صحافة الاستقصاء عربيا؛ وفق منهجية حداثية ومهنية.
