Week 1 of Chronic UTI Treatment — Symptoms, Seizures & Searching for Hope | Day 3-7

The third episode of my Chronic UTI journey reveals the first 3-7 days of treatment, following the Artemis Cystitis protocol of long-term high-dose antibiotics for embedded urinary tract infection and chronic cystitis. After suffering for 5 years with an undiagnosed illness, this first week shows how symptoms and medication side effects begin to impact my life, also affecting my travel plans to Cork, Ireland. During these days my symptoms initially worsen, experiencing kidney pain, extreme fatigue and a flare of my neurological condition, Functional Neurological Disorder (FND), which leads to a non-epileptic dissociative seizure after filming for a health documentary. I talk about my anxieties of feeling unheard and misunderstood as woman suffering with a silent illness. I begin reading “Cystitis Unmasked” by the clinic founder Professor James Malone-Lee, learning that chronic UTI is often misdiagnosed as Interstitial Cystitis, how urine cultures are so often misleading, and how ineffective short courses are leading to further resistance to common antibiotics. Later my fiancé and I travel overseas, where I accidentally take the wrong medication leading to further complications while trying to maintain my treatment protocol. Amid the struggle, small moments of hope appear, like visiting Blarney Castle’s poison garden, discovering Artemisia Absinthium, the plant that inspired the clinic’s title and named after the greek warrior goddess, Artemis — a reminder to trust my intuition and the healing power of nature. This series exists because I couldn’t find many recovery stories from women living with chronic UTI.
