Last week I had never heard of "Netlify" or XFDF (a forms data format for PDF files) or that it was even possible to put tracking in a PDF to see how many people have viewed your lets say personal CV PDF. I stumbled across a guy on LinkedIn in my suggestion box that told us a story that he was unemployed for 9 months and he was getting frustrated by the amount of ghosting that was occurring. And so he started a business where you could pay $10 a month and it would put invisible tracking in your CV which would be saved in PDF format and a website where you could view how many people had visited your CV in PDF format. So I did a bit of digging and research. Used Claude AI to build most of the codebase but that also came with heavy code review and cleaning up alot of the code that Claude had generated, and I built a replica proof of concept in about the course of about 4 days. I looked up some free hosting on the internet and discovered something called Netlify. It allowed me to run serverless node.js endpoints. I looked up free database solutions and I found mongodb Atlas. They have a free option there for small projects. I used Claude AI to help get me straight to the main points I needed to learn to build this side idea. It told me everything I needed to know fast without reading nine million reddit conversations. And then in approx. 4 days, I had a working prototype... There were some limitations like the tracking won't work if you view the PDF in Chrome or a web browser, but for the most part, it met the requirements. I have a free demo. As this is free, it is rate limited. i'm restricting 1 tracking per hour for each ip range (meaning one person on your ISP network can only create 1 tracking per hour). I also only allow a certain amount of trackings to be created per hour in total. If nobody hits your tracking within 4 weeks, it'll automatically delete.
