Jeff Caponigro, APR, PRSA is Executive Vice President-Corporate Communications and Chief Marketing Officer of Trion Solutions, Inc., in Troy, Michigan. and President and CEO of Caponigro Public Relations Inc., in Southfield, Michigan. Jeff Caponigro (pronounced CAPP-uh-NEE-grow) is one of the country’s most respected public relations and marketing professionals, specializing in branding, reputation management, media relations, speaker and media training, executive coaching and crisis planning and crisis communications. Caponigro was awarded PRSA’s highest national award, the Silver Anvil, for the public affairs program to encourage passage of safety-belt use laws in 48 states and increase national safety-belt use by 300 percent. That program was named by PR Week magazine as one of the “20 Greatest PR Campaigns Ever.” He also has received national recognition for his crisis-management work on the 1995 recall of seat belts, which, at the time, was the largest recall in the history of the automotive industry. He established Caponigro Public Relations in 1995 and Caponigro Marketing Group in 2003. His agency was named one of the nation’s five best “crisis and issues management firms” and “public affairs firms” by New York-based THE HOLMES REPORT. His firm was the first public relations agency to earn ISO 9001:2000 certification for its quality practices and procedures. Caponigro Public Relations won the nation’s top award for PR firms, called the SABRE Award, in the category of “Client Service.” Before starting his own firm, Caponigro was Chairman and CEO of another public relations firmin the Detroit area that was called Casey Communications Management, Inc., which, at the time, was the largest public relations firm in Michigan and owned by Shandwick Worldwide. He was named one of two Managing Directors nationally for Shandwick with oversight responsibilities of Shandwick firms in Chicago, Philadelphia, Atlanta and Louisville, while still operating Casey Communications in the Detroit area. He earned his B.A. degree from Central Michigan University, majoring in English and journalism, and participated in the month-long Wharton Business School Executive Development Program. He served six years as a trustee on the board of Central Michigan University, including two years as the university’s Vice Chairman and two years as Chairman of the Board. In 2009, he was inducted into CMU’s Journalism Hall of Fame. Before his career in marketing and public relations, he was a reporter and columnist for three Michigan newspapers. Caponigro is a former board member of Walsh College, Harper Hospital, Leadership Detroit and St. Leo University in Tampa. He also is a former Chairman of the Board of Metropolitan Affairs Coalition.
