#how_to_grow_waterlily_seedlings #manelmalrahas #waterlilysecrets This video is on growing waterlily seedlings correctly. how to plant waterlily seedlings@manelmalrahas Waterlilies are a fantastic addition to your water scape. They are so beautiful and fragrant. This video is to explain the correct way of planting waterlily seedings. Around the world, hybridizers of waterlilies have been successful in producing master pieces of new waterlilies. Not like in the past, modern day waterlily hybrids are of high petal counts, more fragrant, with special colors, with multi colors, big in sizes, more suitable as cut flowers, and more resistant to harsh weather conditions etc. We have brought you many videos previously on waterlily seeds collection and waterlily seeds germination. Here, we are going to bring you knowledge on waterlily seedlings. Within 2 to 4 weeks of germination, seedlings turn into an underwater rosette of leaves stage. Seeds stored in dry condition or refrigerated take longer time for germination. It may be 3 to 8 weeks. They stay on this rosette leaves stage for months or even years. They are stubborn. We call this stage as Juvenile leaves stage as well. Length of day light, day light intensity, amount of temperature, availability of nutrients in the soil or water affects this stubborn behavior of rosette leave stage. The longer the day light, higher the day light intensity, higher the temperature, and higher the availability of nutrients normally increase the changes of turning juvenile seedling stage into floating leaves stage faster. It is recommended to keep the seeding trays within 1 to 2 inches of water below the water surface. Normally, juvenile leaves stage becomes into floating leaves stage within 04 weeks. In other words, from germination to floating leaves stage, it takes normally around 08 weeks. 03 to 04 floating leaves seedling stage is the best time to separate them from the seedling tray and replant them into bigger pots. When we look at the leaves’ underside and upper side of the seedlings, we can observe peculiar or special patterns that are not available in our current collection of waterlilies. We have added few examples of such special characteristics of such leave patterns here. This may be different to yours as your collection and mix is different to mine. This is an indication to pick such seedlings to give special care and grow them separately to see results. This will save our time, efforts, money and space for planting all the seedlings. However, sometimes, best results bring seedlings that has no special characteristics from leaves. Therefore, it is worth investing your time in many seedlings as much as possible. As previously mentioned, there must be at least 2 or 3 floating leaves for us to safely plant waterlily seedlings. Experts say that fertilizer should not be used when planting waterlily seedings. However, some use slow releasing fertilizers at this stage as well. In this video we are using only topsoil and are not using any fertilizers. We have previously added few videos on soil preparation for waterlilies that you can watch for more understanding. Waterlily seedings are delicate and can’t be kept outside for a long time. Therefore, we need to plant them soon after they are removed from the seeds tray. Re-planted seedling pot should be immersed into a bigger water container soon. It is recommended to keep the pot within 2 to 3 inches of water below the water surface initially. Here we use a small amount of pure mud or clay soil to increase the chances of survival of the seedlings. If you are using mud or clay soil as your media, this step is not required. Once the seedling has started growing on the new pot, we need to wait around one week till the new floating leaves emerge to fertilize seedings. We will bring you a separate video on fertilizing waterlily seedlings. Stay connected by subscribing to our channel by licking subscription button below if you are not already subscribed.
