Rites of Tamburo by Robert W. Smith Conducted by Ignatius Soedjadi - JIS Corak Seni | Middle School Culture Exchange | ISKL | JIS | SAS Feb 14, 2026 @ISKL (Tantai on Trombone sitting far left) Thanks to the Band Exchange Team for the video. MS Culture Exchange 2026 On February 14, 2026, Kuala Lumpur became a canvas for young diplomats during the Middle School Culture Exchange. This annual event brought together delegations from three premier institutions: KLIS (Kuala Lumpur International School), JIS (Jakarta Intercultural School), and SAS (Singapore American School). What is the Middle School Culture Exchange? The exchange is a student-led residency where middle schoolers from across Southeast Asia engage in artistic and social workshops. It serves as a bridge between their diverse international school environments, featuring traditional performances, collaborative mural painting, and the "Global Café," where students share the heritage of their respective home countries. The "Corak Seni" Spirit This year’s event was created under the theme of "Corak Seni" (Malaysian for "Patterns of Art"). The spirit of Corak Seni was chosen to highlight how individual cultural "motifs"—much like the intricate patterns in Batik or Songket—are beautiful on their own but create a masterpiece when woven together. The initiative was designed to: Celebrate Connectivity: Using art as a universal language to find common ground. Foster Global Citizenship: Encouraging students to see themselves as part of a larger, vibrant regional pattern. Preserve Heritage: Introducing modern students to traditional Southeast Asian artistic techniques. By the end of the day, these three schools proved that while their backgrounds differ, their shared "Corak" creates a unified future. #CultureExchange2026 #BandExchange #CorakSeni #InternationalSchools #ISKL #JIS #SAS #Malaysia #Indonesia #Singapore #MiddleSchoolLife
