Back in 2012, the East Penn Railroad still had one of their rare General Electric U23B locomotives operating on the Lancaster & Northern branch between Sinking Spring and Ephrata, Pennsylvania. But this day would not be without difficulties… First, this aging locomotive has trouble moving only a couple of loaded rail cars. It did not appear the sand box was loaded. Old 4-axle GE’s are notorious for their lack of tractive effort due to wear at such age. Second, the train was switching a new customer that had only been receiving cars for less than a month. The locomotive had a hard time fitting in the place it needed to place the rail car! SteelCo in Fritztown (which has since closed and re-opened as another business) was a short-lived customer, so it was a treat to see a train here. PRL 2204 was sold in 2015 and left the property for Eastern Washington Gateway railroad. / centralpennrailproductions Please subscribe if you haven’t already!
